AIIScholarship

The Cooper River Bridge Run (CRBR) announced today that it has established a scholarship fund for Culinary Arts students at the Art Institute of Charleston. Julian Smith, Executive Director of the CRBR, presented a check for $1,500.00 to Eric Watson, Culinary Arts Department Chair and Student Christina Lane at the Art Institute's Headquarters on Market Street.

The scholarship funding is a result of the new "Taste of the Bridge Run" event where students from the Art Institute of Charleston's Culinary Program and several area restaurants provide the high-carb, pre-race meal for ticketed race participants. It was the first time the traditional pasta dinner was replaced with creative cuisine by the school along with multiple locally owned businesses, and the event will now be a permanent part of the Bridge Run. Halls Chophouse, Jim 'N Nicks, Liberty Taproom and Virginia's on King are among the restaurants expected to participate in the 2012 event March 30.

"The Taste of the Bridge Run was a huge success and the Culinary Program from the Art Institute of Charleston contributed immensely," said Smith. "The students seemed to enjoy it as much as the attendees, and their contribution was nothing short of professional. The culinary village concept is new in racing circles, and we got very positive feedback from runners all over the country."
